Girl Talk! PMS and Periods.

Hey Guys

So as I said in the beginning, my blog is going to be somewhere that I can talk about anything and everything, it will really just depend on the day and how I’m feeling. It just so happens at the moment everything is body related as that’s just where I’m at at the moment. Next week it might be about music and gigs and then fashion or products…..Who knows? because I certainly don’t! lol

Ok boys time to Hide, Its PMS time! lol I fancy a girlie chat.

Menstruation, or having periods, is part of the female reproductive cycle. While the average interval between periods is 28 days, many women will have cycles that are longer or shorter than this. PMS is the physical, mental and emotional symptoms which many women have during the second half of their cycle. Most experience PMS on and off throughout their life but a lot of women have PMS every month! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The cause of PMS is not clear. Changes in hormones during your period seems to be an important factor. Sometimes these changing hormones affect some women more than others. Chemical changes in the brain may also be involved.

PMS often includes both physical and emotional symptoms, such as:

  • Acne
  • Swollen or tender breasts
  • Feeling tired
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Upset stomach, bloating, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Headache or backache
  • Appetite changes or food cravings
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Trouble with concentration or memory
  • Tension, irritability, mood swings, or crying spells
  • Anxiety or depression

Symptoms vary from woman to woman.

Now here’s what I have find helps me a lot:

As a women who suffers from it bad and for a very long part of the month after trying lots of different tablets, diets and pain killers, I have decided that exercise, comfy clothes and relaxation is really the best thing for it.

Its the hardest thing in the world to get up and go to the gym when you are dying with cramps and feeling 9 months pregnant but if you can just push through it and get to the gym you will honestly feel 10 times better. Its strange, I have found that before the gym my cramps are a killer, while I’m in the gym and training the cramps subside and then once I’m back in my car heading home the cramps are a killer again. It is definitely clear to me that exercise helps.

I also find it helps with the bloating. I presume the exercising gets the blood circulating in the body which in turns helps with the bloating.

The brain definitely benefits from the gym during PMS. Emotions can be very high, in my case, particularly high! so what better way to calm them down than a good sweaty gym session.

Comfy clothes are very important. I actually have a section in my wardrobe for my period clothes and underwear. Honestly this is vital! I bloat a lot and the last thing I want to be wearing is skinny jeans and tight tops so I mostly live in leggings and jumpers. Nice ones but comfy ones! You don’t have to let yourself go just to be comfy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hot water bottles are a must, they are brilliant for lying on your stomach when you’ve cramps.

One more thing which has helped me a lot, meditation and also realising that you are PMSing and your bodies hormones are up to ninety and you are not going crazy. I often talk myself down if I find myself getting angry over something stupid and I just keep saying to myself STOP OVER REACTING, it’s all good and Breathe.

Thanks for the girlie chat!

Love

Marie-Ann

You’re right about exercising, just tested and approved :).
As hard as it can be (particularly with a swollen and heavy breast hurting badly with any movement) running is the best thing. I’m in the middle of PMS (did not know what it was before reading a couple of articles, including yours) and after a painful 40 min session of running, my breast definitely hurt a lot less ๐Ÿ™‚
